The MOMS Club began in 1983 when an at-home mother in California
decided she was tired of being alone at
home. She wanted to meet other at-home mothers and she wanted to find other
at-home children for her
children to play with. When she discovered there were no other organizations that met during
the day and
allowed her to come with her baby and preschooler, she decided to start a brand new organization just
for
at-home mothers, and the MOMS Club was born.
The chapter she started was so successful, therefore, she
knew mothers in other areas must be needing the
MOMS Club, too. Soon she and other volunteers were helping mothers
start MOMS Clubs across the country
and around the world!
We now have over 2,100+ chapters in the US alone
and over 110,000 members! We also have International chapters starting too! The Chesapeake Chapter started as a sister-chapter
to Virginia Beach South's chapter in April of 2001. Since then we have grown by leaps and bounds and have sistered our
own chapter, Chesapeake North, in May of 2003.
FAQS:
What
kind of club is the MOMS Club?
We are a
non-profit organization that offers support for stay at home moms. We encourage members to participate in a wide variety
of social activities for moms, children and families. We have activities at parks, the zoo, museums, movies,
the beach, you name it! We are also very active in helping women and children in our community. Since our chapter
began, we have sponsored the March of Dimes First Annual Duck Regatta, donated to the REACH program, donated to Toys for Tots,
helped out the St. Mary's home for disabled children, participated in several school supplies drives and assisted local
women and children shelters. We participate in several charitable drives each year.
How does it work?
A mom joins the chapter by paying a $20 yearly due and is placed into a playgroup with children the same
age as her own. Playgroups meet once a week for a playgroup activity. In addition to playgroups, we have other
social events throughout the month such as Mom's Night Out, Recipe Club and other activities which all members
are invited to attend. Also, once a month, we have a general meeting/social for all members to attend. The general
meetings are a lot of fun and often include a guest speaker.
How does a mom join the Chesapeake-South MOMS Club?
